All in Shazza's Style Tips
When sofa.com contacted me about working with them and picking a sofa for my new home I headed straight for my ‘Velvet Sofa Inspo’ board on Pinterest and the colour that I was most drawn to was pink….. Now I think pink is a tricky colour to get right on a large piece of furniture…. The brighter and bubblegum pinks, whilst looking great in a colourful, modern home environment, just wouldn’t work with the more scandi, natural look in my home. I knew therefore that I was looking for a more dusky pink if that was the colour I was going to go for.
When we first viewed our house we were looking at it as a renovation project so we knew we would be making big changes. One of the first things that struck us was how dark and gloomy it was and I knew bringing lots of natural light in was going to be a big part of the project….We were lucky that the back rooms downstairs had a flat roof back from when the property was a garage for the nearby manor house and because of this we could add a skylight to what would otherwise have been an internal room with no natural light of its own.
As I’m sure you know, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, velvet has made a big comeback in interiors over the last couple of years. So when sofa.com got in touch and asked if I’d like to work with them on an interiors campaign and choose a piece of furniture, I immmediatly popped over to their website to check they offered velvet fabrics for their armchairs….. And luckily for me they most certainly do!
When we had the wood burner fitted in the sitting room we just cut the carpet away and this is how it’s stayed, with the dodgy cut edges thankfully covered by rugs and the sofa. So when flooring company Kersaint Cobb got in touch and asked me to take a look at their floor coverings I jumped at the chance.
So we’re into November and in my world it is now perfectly acceptable to start talking about Christmas….. I absolutely love this time of year and unsurprisingly one of my favourite parts of the festive season is decorating the house.
So, we’ve been renovating our home for over 3 years now and for some strange reason our bedroom is the last room we have thought about! So I was thrilled when Eve Sleep contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in trying their mattress bundle and bedding….
I love houseplants, which is great because these days no home decor is complete without them! Indoor plants have made a big comeback in recent years and most of us have anything ranging from a coupler of succulents plants to a whole range of shapes and sizes…… I myself have 46 at last count!
I have already written a blog post on how I love exposed brick in the home…... This post is to show you how you can add the brick effect to your home even if you have a more modern home with out the option of chiselling away the plaster or a new build home which has timber and plasterboard internal walls.
I was resigned to the fact that until we could afford solid shutters along the bottom of the window we'd have to live with the glare and the view of the windows next door. That was until I was introduced to The Window Film Company....... I had never even thought about applying a window film..... But let me tell you it's been the perfect solution!
You can't open an interiors magazine these days without seeing a velvet sofa or two..... Velvet just looks and feels luxurious and gives a touch of glamour to any room and is certainly a big interior trend at the moment. I had been after one for ages and finally Mr H relented and agreed a velvet sofa was a necessity in our home.....
Shutters, yep I love them! I like the clean aesthetic of shutters inside the window frame and the fact that they look just as fabulous in a period property as they do in a contemporary new build. So, when the people at Shutterly Fabulous asked me to write a blog about them I knew this was going to be right up my street!
This weeks blog post is all about mirrors! Every home has them and used creatively they can make a real difference to any room.... Here's a run down of my mirrors at home plus the three that are currently at the top of my wishlist.
I have a confession to make, I'm addicted to rugs! There I said it!..... I spend way to much time trawling the web for fab rugs, it's taken over from my Rightmove addiction of late..... but then we all know how a great rug can completely change the whole vibe of a room....
There are many ways to add a bar to your home, be it a built in bar if you have the space, to using a built in unit to house your bar, utilising shelves in your kitchen or popping a glamorous bar trolley in the corner of the room........
At the end of January I was lucky enough to attend the Rockett St George event 'The Interior Design Trends in 2018' with Busola Evans..... The drinks were flowing, the canapés delicious and a sold out crowd of interior lovers were ready for an evening of interiors chatter and the chance to ask for expert interior design advice.....
I have always had a thing about exposed brick in the home, that whole NYC loft vibe really gets the juices flowing, if you know what I mean!If I had to describe my dream home, an old original feature brick wall would be right at the top of the list.
I do love a string of lights in my home, I love the interest they can add to a corner and the way they add bit of bling and brighten up any area of a room, here's how I use them in my home.....
Dark blue walls? yes please! I think using blue on the walls of our homes had a bad rep for far too long, and now thankfully they've returned in the last five years or so, but in much deeper, richer colours.
It's the time of year where stars are everywhere, but, just like puppies they're not just for Christmas...... Ahhh I love a 'Star' in my home, no I'm not talking anyone famous ( Though I wouldn't say no to Aiden Turner popping by )
