Finishing Our Bedroom Renovation..... Time for a good night's sleep
*Sponsored post in collaboration with Eve Sleep PLC
So, we’ve been renovating our home for over 3 years now and for some strange reason our bedroom is the last room we have thought about! To be honest up until the beginning of this year the walls still had the mist coat of white paint added at build stage and we were sleeping in a bed that had a piece of wood propped underneath holding up the frame after one of the kids decided the only bonus of us all sharing a room for 3 months at build ‘hell’ stage was using our king size bed as a trampoline! In January I finally got round to painting the walls and buying us a new bed frame but our old mattress desperately needed replacing as every time Jim rolled over I felt like I was on a dinghy in the north sea and what with the spring that was digging into my shoulder and the sofa increasingly seeming like the place to spend the night I was thrilled when Eve Sleep contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in trying their mattress bundle and bedding….. I think it’s the quickest ‘Yes’ I’ve ever said and I decided with our fabulous eve mattress bundle arriving it was time to sort out our bedroom once and for all!
The products in the bundle consist of the eve original mattress, the 4.5 tog duvet, 2 memory foam pillows and the water and dust mite resistant mattress protector. Known as the eve experience- they all work in harmony together to give you a great nights sleep…. I couldn’t wait to try it out. The mattress is delivered vacuum packed in a big white & yellow box and once you open it you are greeted with not only your mattress but happy messages too….. It was easy to get the mattress out of the box and even though I had no help I was able to put it on the bed frame whilst still in the packaging and cut the packaging off in place…. Before I could jump on for a snooze I had to wait 5 hours for the mattress to regain its full shape- the perfect amount of time to get the rest of the room done…...
So, the mattress, protector and pillows were in place and it was time to open my final package the beautiful linen sheets which were also kindly sent to me…. I chose the white/light grey combination as I have light grey walls in the room and wanted a cosy scandi look to the bedroom….. The duvet cover and pillow cases are 100% linen and not only do they look gorgeous but as linen comes from the naturally anti-allergenic and bacteria-resistant flax plant it’s perfect if you suffer from dust allergy like me!
These beautiful linen sheets work so well in a pared back scandi style bedroom, I have added green cushions to the bed as the accent colour, as they match the green of the plants in the room, a must for me in the bedroom. As the room has predominantly cool colours I’ve added touches of gold for warmth, the gold ‘silence’ print, mirror and hanging bulbs all bring warmth to the scheme which I think is important in a bedroom. The hanging bedside oversized bulbs replace table lamps….. Using very low energy bulbs gives a warm glow and stops them being overpowering when lit.
I chose a light grey carpet when the extension was built and have added a natural cowhide rug to one side of the room and a grey patterned rug at the side of the bed along with a light grey wool throw on the bed to add texture and interest, whilst being in keeping with the parred back colour scheme. A whicker basket and chair in the corner bring in more natural materials to the nordic style scheme.
In one corner of the bedroom is a large mirror that I have had for many years, it has made its way with us over three home renovation projects….. It is also a firm favourite with my daughters and many a selfie gets taken in it…. Being silver though it needed an update, I have added an aged brass paint to the pattern on the mirror frame but am thinking now it actually needs to be turned totally gold, a job for next week!
I’m so pleased with my bedroom revamp and it feels a much calmer, cohesive space now but what I was really looking forward to was checking out the new mattress, pillows and bedding! I can honestly say, as someone who suffers with a bad back and should not have been sleeping on an old saggy mattress and broken bed frame for as long as I was, I had the best nights sleep I’ve had in months. The mattress is super comfortable as well as supportive and I now wake up with no aches at all and to be honest I am finding it a struggle to get out of bed in the morning! The pillows also give the perfect amount of support, I’ve always been a two pillow kind of girl and have never used a memory foam pillow before and wasn’t sure I’d like it but I have to say I think I’ve been converted!
The duvet was a revelation too, I can’t have a down duvet due to my asthma (much to Jim’s annoyance) but the eve duvet uses 70% Microfibre which is a light and soft filling which feels and falls just like down so both Jim and I are happy now! I love the feel of the linen sheets and they definitely helped me feel cooler during the night, I no longer seem to be throwing the duvet on and off every hour! I also feel so much calmer in a tidy, finished bedroom. So all in all I now feel fairly stupid that we didn’t change our mattress and update our bedding sooner and that we allowed our bedroom to be the dumping ground whilst the rest of the house got finished….. Like they say though, all good things come to those who wait!
I’m super happy with my bundle so I should also let you know Eve Sleep are currently running a ‘welcome home’ campaign in which you could win your mortgage or rent payments for up to 12 months! Not only that but you win a bundle of eve products (the original mattress, the bed frame, two memory foam pillows and the duvet.)
