Home Bars..... Staying in is the new going out!
A couple of weeks ago I did a post about my Kitchen pantry revamp...... Now, obviously I just had to make room for a home bar in there and lots of you commented on the bar area in particular and said you'd love a home bar but haven't got space or weren't sure how to go about adding one.
Well , as it just so happens one of my favourite ladies on Instagram, artist Donna Kelly aka @kelldon, has just added her own (much more glamorous) bar area to her own home so I thought I should share it and the inspiration behind it with you all, along with some of my other favourite Instagram home bars!
There are many ways to add a bar to your home be it a built in bar, if you have the space, to using a built in unit to house your bar, utilising shelves in your kitchen or popping a glamorous bar trolley in the corner of the room. I'm going to show you some great examples of them all!
Of course, the other place you can add a bar area is in your garden, I have just informed Mr HS this week that he is now required to build the garden bar I've been banging on about since we finished the building work as I'm holding the first 'Sassyhomestyle Kitchen Party' event for about 100 interior lovers right here in June! We are lucky that the bifold doors from the kitchen open onto a Victorian walled courtyard that is just crying out for a rustic bar area in the corner...... granted it may only get used for two months of the year due to the British summer, but lets not worry about minor details such as that eh! If you're reading this Mr HS, crack on with it love the insta interiors community is relying on you!
But enough of my online husband nagging lets get on with some home bar inspo, starting with Donna's fabulous bar area in her newly built conservatory extension. As home bar areas go this really is a beauty and a great addition to Donna's gorgeous home. I asked her to tell me a bit about her inspiration behind it......
Sean and I just love entertaining and spend loads of time sitting around the breakfast bar in the kitchen with friends. We had talked about spending money on an office for Sean in the garden or maybe a conservatory for a while...... At Christmas we went out for drinks with friends at The Fossgate Social in York, where Sean and his friends used to live when it was flats. In those days it was a total party house and now it is a really cool cocktail bar with these beautiful deep buttoned blue velvet chairs. Whilst sat there with some of our best mates, both of whom used to own that gorgeous room as their lounge 22 years before, we decided that we'd like something special at our home to sit and (obviously) drink in..... And thats where I got my inspiration.....
Our house was built in the 1930's so I wanted it to have an art deco/mid century feel to it. The idea behind the wood panelling on the bar was from a pattern I saw on Pinterest on someones wall..... I wanted something that was geometric but warm which is why I chose the wood. We have used Hague Blue already in our home in one of the kids bedrooms and wanted to use it again, it fits really well with the decor in the rest of the downstairs and I love all the dark hues of the farrow and Ball blues.
The beautiful blue velvet chairs are original German chairs that Donna had re-upholstered in Designers Guild velvet by @florrieandbill. They sit beautiful next to the pink velvet stools from Graham & Green and gold accents. I asked her how she chose the patterned floor tiles.... 'I'd seen the tiles on Pinterest ages ago and loved the pattern that was kind of modern and interesting but not too bold....... Though if you stare at them close up you go cross eyed haha'
One thing's for sure Donna's Bar area is certainly somewhere I'd like to find myself sipping a large G&T of an evening, with a bar like this at home staying in would definitely be the new going out, I don't think I'd ever bother going out again!
As I said earlier you can fit a bar into your home in many ways so if you're looking for inspiration, Instagram is a great place to start...... Here are some of my favourites......
Built in bars
There you have it, some of my favourite home bar areas....Which is your favourite? I hope I've inspired you to add a home bar to your house, whatever the space available..... Oh and mine's a large G&T please!
